“There’s a lot of hope to be had here at Flying Pig Farm. There’s a place for us in this ecosystem. We can be sources of generosity. We can be sources of love. We can be sources of mutual thriving. And it’s not difficult. It’s not going
to require you to fundamentally change anything about who you are. It’s just about showing up and being in relationship with land, and we can do that wherever we are because the land is holding us up.”
– Barak Ben-Amots, Executive Director

Nourishing Our community
and the Land
About Us
Our mission is to cultivate resilient relationships with food and natural systems through land-based learning. We nourish our community and the land we steward by hosting school and community groups and events, supporting work training internships, facilitating workshops, hosting community gardens, cooking and sharing food, promoting creative expression, holding seasonal festivals, and advocating for healthy relationships with people and the planet. We primarily focus on three areas:
• youth development,
•food access & education, and
•land restoration & stewardship.
Our work and capacity have grown significantly since our founding in 2014, and we now offer a wide range of programs, reaching a record 1,739 community members in 2024, including 1,278 youth with over 5,500 total farm visits throughout the year.
Impact surveys developed in partnership with El Paso County Public Health from 2023-24 indicated a 44% increase in likelihood to eat fresh vegetables or fruit among our participants. Additionally, we have measured 80% increases in social and emotional learning and 73% increases in feelings of connection and responsibility to the natural world.
Statement of Purpose
As we commit to the land that holds Flying Pig Farm and the community, we commit to securing the land as a community resource for generations to come. In partnership with the land owner, we are working with the Palmer Land Conservancy to put the land into a protective easement, and purchasing the land to be tended and stewarded by a community board.
